How Low Will Your Tank Go?

If you haven’t heard, on September 9, a gasoline pipeline that runs from Houston, Texas to places all across the Southeastern US developed a leak.  This leak is causing gas shortages in North Carolina and in other states across the Southeast.  Performance Acura wants you to take a moment and think of ways to help conserve gas.  Our vehicles do get great gas mileage that could easily get you around the Chapel Hill, Durham, Cary, Raleigh, and the rest of the Triangle area.  But what can you do to help keep more gas in your tank?  We gave a couple of tips yesterday on our Facebook Page, but here are some additional tips to go along with those.

Recap from yesterday’s Performance Acura tips:

1.)  Slow down, and drive the speed limit.  The faster you go the more fuel you’ll use

2.)  Keep your tires properly inflated.  Low tires can cause your Miles Per Gallon (MPG) to lower.

3.)  Don’t run your AC when sitting in traffic.  Roll your windows down and enjoy the cool air. (Glad Fall is almost here.)  Stop and go traffic and the AC running don’t mix.  It will cause your fuel consumption to go up.  On that same note, allowing your car to idle uses fuel as well. 

4.)  Clean up your car.  Extra unnecessary weight in your Acura can slow it down.  The more weight that is in it, the harder the Acura has to work to move, which means more gas will be used.

5.)  Only drive where you have to.  The weather is getting nicer outside.  If you have the ability to, walk or ride a bike to where you need to go.  Don’t make any unnecessary trips.

6.)  Keep your Acura services up to date.  Make sure you get your oil changed accordingly, and also make sure you get the proper tune-ups at the right time.  If your car is healthy, it will work more efficiently. 

7.)  Lastly, map out your trip before you go.  There is always multiple ways to get somewhere, but your way may not be the fastest, or if there is an accident that is causing delays.  Most cell phones have some form of real-time navigation system.  Plug in your destination and see how the phone will take you.  Sometimes if there is an accident, it can reroute you so you’re not sitting in traffic wasting gas.
