Auto dealer and race team owner Rick Hendrick will receive the 2014 Keith Crain/Automotive News Lifetime Achievement Award on Jan. 22 at the 2014 Washington Auto Show.
Hendrick, 64, is the founder and chairman of Hendrick Automotive Group, the nation's second-largest privately held dealership group and the sixth-largest group overall. He also is chairman of Hendrick Motorsports, winner of 13 NASCAR championships.
Hendrick Automotive of Charlotte, N.C., operates 87 dealerships in 13 states. Hendrick Motorsports fields four NASCAR teams.
"Rick has become an auto industry icon through his charity, hard work, grit and determination," said Keith Crain, Automotive News editor-in-chief, who will present the award. "He has achieved unimaginable success as an automotive dealer and NASCAR owner and he has persevered through unspeakable grief and continues to give back, and that combination makes him unique and the perfect recipient of the lifetime achievement award."
The award is given annually to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the auto industry. Previous recipients of the Keith Crain/Automotive News Lifetime Achievement Award are Edsel Ford II, Roger Penske, Carroll Shelby, Ralph Nader and Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich.
