The Sundance Institute is an institute that began with Robert Redford and a group of friends gathering in the mountains of Utah to create an environment to foster new voices in American film, encouraging independent artists to share their work publicly. This was in 1981. Now every year in January in Utah, the Sundance Film Festival is held to celebrate independent film artists, both for American and international works. The festival has introduced films such as An Inconvenient Truth, Precious, Napolean Dynamite and Little Miss Sunshine. The Sundance Institute is a nonprofit institute and the Film Festival is a program of the institute, therefore it takes a lot of funding from corporate supporters, as well as private foundations, non profit associations and guilds, government agencies, and individual donors to make it possible each year. The festival is attended by over 40,000 people and generates at overall economic impact of over $62 million and more than $18.5 million in media exposure! 2011 will be Acura's first year as a Presenting Sponsor at the Sundance Film Festival and is a very fitting cause for Acura, a company that is always dedicated to the interests of their customers and innovative work. Acura will also be the Official Vehicle of the festival. With the new 2011 Acura TDX out just over the holidays, there will be a lot of exposure to Acura's latest model and hopefully some good reviews to follow!
