Recently Consumer Reports released a list of their choices for the Best Car for Teenage Drivers. Statistically, teens are more likely to die in a car accident than by any other means, and most of the time, those accidents are avoidable.
Consumer Reports recommends a family sedan that has many modern safety features. Some of these include stability control, ABS brakes, traction control and side curtain air bags. They also were in search of affordable cars, since it is probably a teenager's first car. They rule out trucks and SUVs because of their top-heavy/high centers of gravity, poor handling and bad gas mileage. And for obvious reasons, sports cars were eliminated from the selection without second thought!

Consumer Reports first choice was the Acura TSX. It has a 5 star safety rating by the federal government and top scores of "Good" for front offset and side impact crash tests. Safety features include: Antilock Brakes, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Assist, and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. It also has an Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure that protects occupants during frontal crashes. As described by Motor Trend: "Acura's Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure provides more efficient dispersal of frontal crash energy through load-bearing frame structures to spread the force of a frontal impact more effectively."
Furthermore, the TSX has a six airbag system: two front airbags, two front side airbags and two side curtain airbags that protect front and rear seat occupants, so not only your child is protected but so are their passengers.
