The 2019 Acura RDX Earns Top Safety Ratings

There's been a lot to talk about recently with news of the 2019 Acura RDX--but recent news from the safety sector will be particularly interesting for Durham families, or drivers in Raleigh who are shopping for one of the safest crossovers for the money.

The 2019 Acura RDX earned the highest possible safety ratings, and the most prestigious award, from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) after testing concluded for the all-new model.

We're excited to report that the all-new 2019 Acura RDX has been named a Top Safety Pick + by the IIHS.

How the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Rates Vehicles

The IIHS puts vehicles through a rigorous, intensive range of tests to gauge crashworthiness, and ability to avoid and mitigate crashes--tests that include everything from sending an SUV flying into a concrete wall, to mimicking side-impact crashes, to piling enormous weight onto the roof to simulate a rollover impact or other crash.

The 2019 Acura RDX was reportedly able to handle 21,000 pounds of force applied to its roof before the structure collapsed the maximum accepted 5.0 inches.

Thanks to standard AcuraWatch™ active safety technology, available advanced headlights, and "Good" ratings (the highest a vehicle can achieve) in all tests of crashworthiness, the 2019 Acura RDX easily netted a Top Safety Pick + award.

Acura VP and GM Jon Ikeda was quoted as saying:

"The 2019 Acura RDX offers the highest level of standard safety and driver-assistance features in its class, so earning class-leading safety ratings is a strong proof point of the technology and design innovation we're bringing to the game."

The AcuraWatch™ suite includes standard Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™), Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, and Road Departure Mitigation; available headlights use state-of-the-art Acura JewelEye™ LED technology.
